TMJ Program

At Physical Therapy & Wellness of Richmond, we specialize in the evaluation and treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, or TMD. This specialized area of physical therapy practice requires advanced education and training. We have achieved great success in treating patients experiencing TMD-related symptoms. We work closely with many dentists, oral surgeons and orthodontists in the Richmond area to make sure each patient’s care is comprehensive.

What to expect

Your initial visit will include a thorough medical and dental history followed by a physical therapy evaluation of the joint and associated soft tissues. Our approach is unique in that structures associated with the joint are assessed both intra-orally and externally for completeness. Because TMD is rarely a localized problem, your evaluation will also include screening of the neck, upper back, and shoulders.

Follow up visits will include specialized physical therapy intervention to address specific impairments related to TMJ/TMD.
